There has been an increased interest in non-surgical ways to sculpt one’s body. This increased interest is understandable because society as a whole has put a lot more emphasis on appearance. Social media sites, digital photographs, and online video sites have made the focus on appearance more powerful than it could have ever been before these technologies came into existence. So people are eagerly interested in learning about anything that allows them to sculpt their body while at the same time saving them the downtime and longer recovery associated with surgical procedures. Two options that have gained popularity in the non-surgical body sculpting world are CoolSculpting and Vanquish. The question is, which of these two treatments is right for you?
First, we should discuss what these two treatments have in common. Both Vanquish and CoolSculpting are not designed to be weight loss programs. Instead, they are designed to help people who have stubborn pockets of fat they cannot address with diet and exercise alone. These treatments are made for individuals who are close to their healthy BMI and just need a little bit of help sculpting their body as opposed to losing large amounts of fat.
Here’s where the treatments differ. CoolSculpting destroys fat cells using a process they referred to as controlled cooling. Basically, they are freezing the fat in your body and killing the fat cells. While this process sounds simple on the surface, as many individuals have found out the hard way, CoolSculpting is not as simple as the advertising would lead one to believe. Many complain of a numbed sensation after the treatment is performed. And because of the size of the applicators used, some complain of lumpy or uneven results.
On the other side of the coin, Vanquish destroys fat cells using heat. As the heat destroys the fat cells, the body’s lymphatic system kicks in and removes the dead fat cells. A nice thing about this treatment is that once the fat cells have been destroyed, they don’t grow back. This doesn’t mean that a person cannot put on weight. The remaining fat cells can swell in size if a person does not watch their diet. However, after the Vanquish treatment, the treated fat cells are gone for good.
Although CoolSculpting and Vanquish have both been approved by the FDA, FDA studies show that Vanquish destroys a higher percentage of fat cells as compared to CoolSculpting. In fact, Vanquish has been shown to destroy between 25 percent and 30 percent of the fat cells in a treated area.
Unlike CoolSculpting, which can only treat a small area, Vanquish is able to treat an area that is the size of a person’s abdomen, including the sides. This means that the end results are going to be even, and a patient is going to be able to get better results in a short amount of time.
CoolSculpting has left some individuals with nerve pain because of the freezing of the nerves. Although this freezing of the nerves and subsequent nerve pain is temporary, it is still uncomfortable.
For all their similarities, when CoolSculpting and Vanquish are compared side-by-side, most would agree that Vanquish is the clear favorite. It provides a greater amount of fat cell loss, while at the same time avoiding many of the side effects one would find with CoolSculpting.
