What is Latisse®?

Latisse® is an FDA-approved medication that comes in liquid form that when applied to the upper eyelids, stimulates the growth of the eyelashes, resulting in longer, thicker, and darker lashes. The solution needs to be applied to the upper eyelids every evening. It takes multiple weeks before visible results are seen, and the full effect takes around 16 weeks to develop. If the treatment is discontinued for some reason, the eyelashes will gradually return their former appearance.

A Closer Look at the Treatment

In the evening, after cleansing the face to remove any makeup, removing contact lenses, and applying any other facial products that are being used, the treatment is applied. A tiny amount of the solution is applied. Most people do not experience any side effects.

What if I Have Glaucoma?

Latisse® was originally developed to treat glaucoma, which is associated with increased intraocular pressure. What is Latisse®?

Latisse® is a once-a-day formula that increases the length, thickness and darkness of your lashes. It works by increasing the growth phase of the lashes, lengthening the process so the hairs have more time to grow. Twenty-five percent of patients in the clinical trial saw an increase in their lash length, and 106 percent saw an increase in how long and thick their lashes are.

How is Latisse® Used?

Latisse® only needs to be applied once a day before bedtime. Before application, you should have your contacts and all makeup removed. You’ll use the single-use applicator brush and put just one drop of Latisse® on the brush. Apply the solution to the base of the upper eyelids, and use a new brush for the second eye. Excess fluid can be gently blotted off with a tissue.

A treatment cycle lasts just 16 weeks before you get the full effects. Latisse® does not work better if it’s applied twice per day; that only ends up costing you more time and money with no effect whatsoever on your lashes.

When Will Results Appear?

Latisse® is not a quick-fix solution, so don’t worry if you aren’t seeing results in the first couple of weeks. Most patients don’t see longer lashes until they’re a month into their treatment cycle, and full results appear in four months. Results may vary from patient to patient, but four weeks is a pretty solid average timeframe in which to expect visible results. It’s important to finish the full four-month cycle. If you stop too soon, any results will quickly disappear. Although it takes a little time to see the full effects of Latisse®, the wait is certainly worth it.
