A less invasive option is microneedling, which boosts collagen, the substance that promotes healthy, youthful-looking skin. The modern treatment used today started in 1995, but the original practice dates back to Ancient Egypt. When considering this treatment, you may have some questions. Here are some common questions answered about microneedling.

How Does Microneedling Work?

The process works by using a special device to create many tiny micro-openings in the skin. The controlled channels encourage the production of collagen in the skin to soften signs of aging and other issues. During the treatment, the qualified technician gently moves the device over the skin in the treatment area. The treatment is performed in the comfort of our office, and patients can get back to their regular routines quickly.

What are the Benefits?

Microneedling improves skin texture by reducing the appearance of signs of aging and sun damage. It helps topical treatments penetrate deeper into the skin by shrinking the pores, which increases their ability to retain moisture.

Since it isn’t surgery, you don’t have to be concerned about anesthesia or a lengthy recovery time. Microneedling works on all skin types, and it even works on sensitive areas, such as the region around the eyes, which can’t tolerate certain other treatments. Best of all, studies have found no negative results in 150,000 clients.

How Do I Care for My Skin After the Treatment?

Follow our team’s instructions after the treatment for the best results. Apply a good sunscreen in the days post-treatment because the skin will be sensitive. Excessive sun can also cause unnecessary issues that could have otherwise been avoided, so it’s important to use sun protection. Get provider recommendations for the best skin products, and follow all post-treatment instructions.

When Will I See Results?

The time it takes to see results varies, but most clients see results in just weeks. However, it is possible to notice plumper skin in less time. You will likely need multiple sessions with touch-up sessions as needed to get the desired results. However, it all depends on the unique case, and that’s one of the reasons why a consultation is so important.

Microneedling is effective for a refreshed appearance, and it’s readily available right here at Glow Medispa in West Seattle. Contact our office today to book an appointment and learn more information!

Rejuvenate Your Skin with Micro-Needling https://glowspaseattle.com/2018/01/01/rejuvenate-skin-micro-needling/ Mon, 01 Jan 2018 09:00:45 +0000 https://glowspaseattle.preview.crystalcleardm.com/?p=1835 Are you tired of looking in the mirror only to see the visible signs of aging like lines and wrinkles staring back at you? Too many patients believe the myth that only cosmetic surgery offers real results when it comes to anti-aging procedures. Actually, many minimally-invasive skin rejuvenation techniques like micro-needling have come along to offer significant results without the need for surgical intervention.

What is Micro-Needling?

Micro-needling is an anti-aging skin rejuvenation treatment involving the use of a handheld device covered in tiny sterile needles that penetrate the skin to a shallow depth. The procedure takes advantage of the fact that controlled micro-channels spur the body into producing collagen and replacing damaged skin with new cells, reducing the signs of visible aging like lines and wrinkles.

A micro-needling treatment begins with the application of a topical skin numbing agent to enhance the patient’s comfort during their procedure. At this point, we begin moving the micro-needling device over the surface of your skin in a series of passes. Each pass of the device creates a number of micro-channels in your skin which stimulates the skin’s collagen production.

These effects are temporary in nature and are actually indications that your body is responding normally to treatment and will initiate a healing cascade to replace old skin tissue with new, more youthful skin.

How Soon Before I Notice Results?

The results of the micro-needling treatment become apparent in the following weeks after your procedure. Your skin will first need time to heal and gradually remodel itself. New collagen and elastin fibers will be laid down, and your skin will become gradually thicker with less noticeable lines, wrinkles, scars, and blemishes.

Can I Have a Treatment Together with Another Skin Treatment?

Yes. In fact, micro-needling works very well in conjunction with topical skin care products. Your skin possesses an outer barrier that normally prevents many topicals from penetrating very deeply. The micro-channels created during treatment allows these topical agents to penetrate more deeply and work more effectively.

Can I Have Multiple Procedures?

Unless you have very minor skin complaints, you will likely benefit from multiple micro-needling treatments. After first allowing several weeks between your last treatment, your next treatment will build upon the results of the last. It may take several micro-needling treatment sessions to produce the results you desire.

Micro-needling is a great option for skin rejuvenation available at Glow Medispa. Learn more about how you can get healthier, more beautiful skin. Contact us today and schedule your consultation at our office in Seattle.

Micro-Needling with Growth Factors https://glowspaseattle.com/2017/10/02/micro-needling-growth-factors/ Mon, 02 Oct 2017 09:00:23 +0000 https://glowspaseattle.preview.crystalcleardm.com/?p=1530 As your skin ages, you will begin noticing that it gradually loses shape, volume, and elasticity, leading to thinner skin that develops wrinkles and starts sagging. These skin changes can lead to feelings of diminished self-esteem, anxiety, and even depression. Fortunately, a new skin enhancement technique called Collagen Induction Therapy, commonly known as micro-needling, can help tremendously with these types of unwelcome skin changes caused by aging and exposure to the environment.

What is Micro-Needling?

Micro-needling is one of the least invasive and most effective skin enhancement techniques currently available. A small device with numerous tiny, sterile needles creates microscopic punctures in your skin. This process encourages the formation of brand new collagen that will gradually resurface and restructure your skin.

Other skin enhancement treatments only deal with the surface aspect of the problem, but this treatment penetrates more deeply into the skin to treat the source of the skin imperfections.

Is It Uncomfortable?

Patients generally tolerate their micro-needling treatments very well. We stand ready to apply a topical numbing solution to your skin prior to your treatment upon request. Any discomfort felt during a treatment passes very quickly. Your skin may look as though it has a mild sunburn for a few hours after the treatment, but this is normal and can be expected to also fade rapidly.

Can the Results of Micro-Needling Be Improved Upon?

One great thing about micro-needling is that it dramatically increases the absorption and effectiveness of anything applied to the skin before or immediately after treatment. The micro-punctures that are formed during a treatment act as tiny channels that allow liquids to move through them, easily penetrating the skin.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is one product that is often applied after a micro-needling treatment to enhance absorption. However, not every patient is eager to have their blood drawn for this type of treatment.

What is Micro-Needling with Growth Factors?

Using growth factors in combination with a micro-needling treatment has some scientific evidence behind it. We know that growth factors consist of larger protein molecules that have difficulty penetrating normal skin. The micro-channels opened by the treatment allow growth factors to penetrate into the lower dermis layer of skin instead of remaining at the surface of the skin.

Sick and Tired of Enlarged Pores? Consider Micro-Needling! https://glowspaseattle.com/2017/06/05/sick-tired-enlarged-pores-consider-micro-needling/ Mon, 05 Jun 2017 09:00:57 +0000 https://glowspaseattle.preview.crystalcleardm.com/?p=1364 Enlarged pores on the facial skin can give the face a pock-marked appearance. They also trap and hold body oils, dead skin cells, and other foreign material, and this leads to blackheads and other types of pimples. Getting rid of enlarged pores is quite difficult if the only treatment is daily cleansing. Micro-needling stimulates skin cell production and also increases the amount of collagen produced in the dermal layers. This evens out the skin texture and reduces the size of the pores. We encourage you to learn more about how micro-needling works and how it can help you achieve and maintain a smoother-looking face without the appearance of enlarged pores.

What is Micro-Needling?

This isn’t a new technique, but only recently has it become popular as a cosmetic treatment for unwanted skin conditions. Micro-needling is also known as collagen induction therapy because it kickstarts a process where the body produces more collagen in the lower dermal layers.

The procedure involves the creation of tiny channels in the skin. This isn’t the same as acupuncture, however. The channels produced during this procedure fill up with blood and lymphatic fluid, and this is the first step in the creation of new skin tissue.

The body also responds by rushing nutrients to the affected area. The channels eventually fill up with healthy, new skin tissue, and the increased amount of collagen present means smoother, glowing skin that is far more supple than before. Enlarged pores become filled in with skin as well, and this improves the overall texture of the facial skin.

How It’s Performed

We will first consult with the client and carefully examine the face to see where enlarged pores, wrinkles, and discolored regions exist. We will then plan out a customized treatment regimen for you. During the actual treatment, the device is skillfully applied to the skin. Special growth factors can be used as well to encourage optimal results. The treatment is performed in the comfort of our office.

Downtime is minimal, with most clients returning to normal activities on the same day. This is an extremely convenient treatment for people with busy schedules and lifestyles. We’ll give the client instructions on how to properly clean the facial skin during the healing process.

The entire rejuvenation process takes some time because of the slow increase in collagen production, but the wait is certainly worth it. Enlarged pores all but disappear from view, and wrinkles are also far less prominent.

The Secrets of Snails: How Microneedling with Growth Factors Can Save Your Skin https://glowspaseattle.com/2016/08/31/secrets-snails-microneedling-growth-factors-can-save-skin/ Wed, 31 Aug 2016 09:00:45 +0000 https://glowspaseattle.preview.crystalcleardm.com/?p=943 by Kate Dee, MD

How can you keep your skin looking young? Sometime around the age of 30, the fibroblasts in your skin go to sleep and stop making collagen and elastin. As you age, these substances in your dermis shrink away, about 1% per year. These are critical to keeping your skin thick and springy, and resistant to gravity. As it slowly thins out, it gives way to wrinkles and sagginess. How to prevent that?

The answer: microneedling with growth factors, which can wake up those fibroblasts! We use great topicals on our skin, like retinols and Vitamin C, which when absorbed well, stimulate collagen production. But those fibroblasts need a much bigger kick to get going. They’re dormant! We use a microneedling device that uses multiple tiny needles to penetrate into the dermis. This minimal injury causes your own body to stimulate healing and collagen production.

This procedure is made more robust with the use of powerful growth factors. We offer two different approaches. One is to use Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) to use the growth factors from your own blood to cause collagen production. I’ve written extensively in two previous blog posts on PRP here: (Part 1 and Part 2). This is known as the PRP facelift or the PRP facial.

Another approach harnesses the power of… Snails! Yes, really. Many years ago, in the early 1900’s, people observed that snails (Cryptomphalus aspersa) have the ability to heal from almost any injury in less than 48 hours. Snail secretions, containing growth factors, glycoproteins and antioxidants, have been studied for over a century now, and have been shown to help repair, maintain and protect human skin. After the nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl in 1986, these powerful substances were used to heal the most severe radiation burns with tremendous success. Now, 30 years later, we use Biopelle tensage growth factor serum to stimulate a massive healing response in your skin. Biopelle has a powerful fibroblast stimulating growth factor that helps your dermis make collagen, with amazing results.

Our goal is to keep those fibroblasts awake and busy making collagen. One procedure causes a collagen response that lasts 4-6 months. We recommend a series of 3 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart. This way each time the fibroblasts get a bigger boost and continue making collagen longer. One series per year can keep your dermis in shape, able to spring back when gravity pulls. Biopelle is clinically proven to repair damaged skin, improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, increase elasticity, enhance and maintain texture, tone and luminosity.

Defy Signs of Aging with a PRP Facelift https://glowspaseattle.com/2016/01/04/defy-signs-aging-prp-facelift/ Mon, 04 Jan 2016 09:00:35 +0000 https://glowspaseattle.preview.crystalcleardm.com/?p=504 When lines and wrinkles begin to appear on the face, aesthetic skin rejuvenation treatments are popular to restore youthful, natural beauty and glow to the skin. There are many treatments on the cosmetic market, but at Glow Medispa, we offer an innovative technique that uses the patient’s own blood – PRP facelift

Although this procedure is completely nonsurgical, the smoothing and tightening effects it can have on your profile are similar to a facelift.

What is a PRP Facelift?

Growing in popularity among celebrities and patients who are seeking a less invasive approach to skin rejuvenation, PRP facelifts blend two separate therapies -micro-needling and PRP – into one treatment that creates optimal results with no recovery time.

What is Micro-Needling?

Using a handheld, pen-like device containing several tiny needles in a treatment tip, micro-needling gently resurfaces the skin by stimulating the body’s natural healing processes.

As the needling pen is moved over the treated area, the needles penetrate the skin to a specific depth, coagulating existing collagen and promoting the production of new collagen to strengthen and restructure the skin.

After this process is complete, the skin is exfoliated and can more easily absorb beneficial products such as PRP.

How PRP Works

Prior to treatment, blood is taken from the client and spun in a sterile centrifuge process that separates it into its separate components and infuses the liquid portion of the blood with more platelets than normal. These platelets contain several growth factors that can help generate new skin cells, tissues, blood vessels, and fat.

During a typical PRP facelift, PRP is spread onto treated skin and absorbed underneath the surface. The platelets act as a strengthening agent and builds up the supporting structural tissue beneath the skin. Eventually, it has a plumping effect that helps visible signs of aging disappear.

Am I a Good Candidate for a PRP Facelift?

During your consultation, our medical team will describe the entire procedure from start to finish. Several factors, such as your health, medical history, and aesthetic goals will also be discussed.

This cosmetic treatment is typically an outpatient procedure and is an easy procedure to fit into a busy schedule. No anesthetic is typically needed as this is a well-tolerated procedure akin to donating plasma at a blood bank.

The injection sites may swell a bit and turn red, but this is only temporary.

Benefits of PRP Treatment

Unlike other skin resurfacing techniques, this type of procedure does not strip or peel away the skin. A PRP treatment is a simple injection procedure with no surgery involved and no downtime for the patient.

The results are long-lasting, so a second treatment is typically not needed for many months.
